Snacks: Every morning we will have a short, working snack time. If your child wishes to bring a snack, make sure it's a healthy snack that is easily eaten (no spoons) and does not distract others. Examples of healthy snacks include; fruits, vegetables, cheese and crackers, and so on.
Birthdays: Please do not send in goodies for your child’s birthday. As a class, we will sing to each student, and they will receive a birthday pencil.
Classroom Behavior Expectations: I strive to foster a classroom environment that is welcoming and safe for students to take the risks that come with great learning. Respect is the foundation of our class. I treat each and every student with respect so they will know how to treat me, and each other as well. Students are expected to show respect to everyone (peers, staff, or volunteers) while at Grand Ridge.
As a class, we will be coming up with our class rules and expectations. These rules will help everyone work their hardest and achieve the most during our year. At Grand Ridge; we work hard, and we are grand.

How can I support my child's learning at home?
- Create a stable routine at home. This propagates crucial study habits and provides students with a good environment to read and complete their reading homework.
- When reading, engage your child in conversation about their books. Talking about what they just read improves comprehension skills and improves their understanding of the content.
- Examples of questions that deepen understanding can be found HERE
- Encourage your student to be responsible for their own learning!
- Download the Parental Roles handout which is given during Curriculum Night
- Volunteer your time! Parents are always welcome to help out in our classroom.
- Volunteers must register and pass a background check before they can be authorized to help out at Grand Ridge. Further information can be found here
- Support our classroom Library! When you place a book order at Scholastic.com, our classroom wishlist is available to view (Wishlist is a work in progress)
- Washington has decided to adopt the CCSS for a variety of reasons. To learn more, please visit the OSPI website.
